In The Peace Country
Tourist Services
Grande Prairie and Valleyview have Visitor Information Centres (VIC) that operate year-round. Other towns in the Peace Country have Visitors Information Centres that operate during the tourist season (typically from Victoria Day, the weekend closest to May 24th, to Labour Day, the first weekend in September). These booths are normally staffed by local residents who are pleased to provide visitors with such information as:
- Accommodations, campsites, stores and other tourist services
- Tourist sites and attractions
- Events and Activities
- Tours and Scenic Routes
- Maps, tourist routes and directions
Be sure to stop at these booths as you tour the Peace Country, chat with the locals, and learn of the attractions. They will help you make the most of your time.
There are two associations known as Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) that provide regional information for tourists, including attractions and tourist businesses including accommodations and restaurants. These DMOs are:
- Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association covering the Peace Country south of the Peace River. http://gptourism.ca/
- Mighty Peace Tourism Association covers the Peace Country north of the river.

GeoTourism Canada
GeoTourism Canada is a not-for-profit society that researches and writes thematic travel guides. These guides provide tourists (and those passionate about a topic) with the information to plan a trip and visit sites of unique interest. GeoTourism Canada publishes its guides free of charge on its website, www.GeoTourismCanada.com. Be sure to visit the website and download any guide that interests you.
