
The Peace Country has an extensive range of sports and facilities to suit all interests. Whether you are interested in serious competition, individual challenges or a social sporting event, the Peace Country has the sporting infrastructure.
Peace Country residents can pursue their sport to the highest levels of competition. We have produced world champions, and hosted world championships. In 2010 Grande Prairie hosted the Arctic Winter Games.
School Sports
The region’s schools encourage students to participate in sports for fun and competition. Regional students have done well in volleyball, basketball, badminton and track and field competitions. Some schools have won provincial championships.
Recreation Leagues
The Peace Country is filled with recreational "fun leagues" for people of all skills and ages. Most games or matches are held in the evenings or weekends for sports such as soccer, volleyball, softball, curling, and hockey. They are a great way to meet new people and have some fun in a friendly environment.
Competitive Sports - HOCKEY
Northwestern Alberta has a fully developed senior, Junior B and minor hockey system. The Peace River Navigators are a popular Junior B team. They play against the Grande Prairie Wheelers and the Beaverlodge Blades, and other communities outside the region. Team standings are available here. Competitive Sports - BASEBALL
The Peace Country has leagues devoted to minor and senior baseball, fastball, and numerous slow pitch leagues. The Grimshaw Thunder Fast Ball team won four provincial championships in five years in the 1990s.
Competitive Sports - TAE KWON DO
Tae Kwon Do is a major sport in the Peace Country. A Grimshaw resident has competed for the Canadian Championships.
Competitive Sports - CURLING
The region has a junior curling program for people below the age of 18 years, featuring league play. Other leagues cater to women’s, men’s, senior’s and mixed teams.

There are many bonspiels held in the Mighty Peace region during the winter. These include Oilmen’s Bonspiels, Truckers & Operators Bonspiels, Women’s Bonspiels, and many "just for fun" tournaments for all ages and skill levels.
