Research

Alberta has research & development spending that is among the highest per capita in Canada. There are more than 30 research & development institutions in the province of Alberta. 

 

The Peace Country is home to a number of institutions and research initiatives including:

  • The Boreal Forest Research Centre. The novaNAIT Boreal Research Institute is a partnership of the private sector, the education system and the community. Administered by NAIT, the Institute is based in Peace River, in the heart of Alberta’s boreal forest. Centre promotes research collaboration, public awareness, technology transfer and educational opportunities across Peace Country. Click here for more information.
     
  • Beaverlodge Research Farm. Affiliated with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Lacombe Research Centre, the Beaverlodge Research Farm researches and develops technology for improved production systems for crops, forage seed, honey bees and other pollinating insects adapted to environmental conditions in Peace Country. It also conducts soil research including nutrient cycling, soil physics and management and soil biology. 
     
  • The Manning Diversified Forest Products (MDFP) Research Trust Fund. This fund was established by MDFP in agreement with the Alberta Government to fund research that furthers understanding of the boreal forest and sustainability of the social, cultural and economic values in the northwest boreal region of Alberta.
