Health care, hospitals, the hiring of health professionals and ambulance services for all of Alberta is the responsibility of the Government of Alberta. The applicable website is http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/.
All Albertans, permanent residents of the province and foreign workers are insured by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP). Registration with the Plan is mandatory, and there are no fees or premiums. Thus, most Albertans consider their health care to be "free" although the cost of their health care is actually covered by taxes. For more information on registering for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan and to download the application form, click here.
The completed form can be mailed to:
Alberta Health & Wellness
Box 1360, Edmonton, Alberta
T5J 2N3, Canada
or submitted in person to Alberta Registries. A complete list of Alberta Registries that deal with Alberta Health is available at: http://www.servicealberta.gov.ab.ca/1641.cfm.
