Because of our vast spaces and smaller communities, there is limited public transit in the Peace Country, except for bus service within the City of Grande Prairie. For more information on Grande Prairie Transit visit:

Most people rely on automobiles to get to work or around town. There are automobile dealerships in many Peace Country communities. These include:
New automobiles list for approximately the same price at any dealer across Canada. Manufacturers tend to average freight costs to maintain a consistent national price. However, it is often possible to obtain a new car a bit cheaper in Alberta because the province does not charge a Provincial Sales Tax (whereas all other provinces do). This may save the consumer $2,000 to $3,000 on the total cost (retail price plus tax) of a mid-range new vehicle.
The price of gasoline (petrol) is a major component of transportation cost. Most fuel in Canada originates in Alberta, and the province has the lowest gasoline taxes of any Canadian province. As a result, Alberta often enjoys the lowest gasoline prices in Canada.
Alberta residents that operate motor vehicles are required to have an Alberta drivers license. People who have a drivers license from another Canadian province (or sometimes another jurisdiction) can exchange it for an Alberta license. Otherwise, a new resident to Alberta may have to pass tests to demonstrate knowledge of Alberta traffic laws and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Basic information on obtaining a drivers license is available at http://www.servicealberta.gov.ab.ca/Drivers_Licence.cfm.
